:: A Bright Summer Day @ Lola's ::

Hey girls! 

A few days ago I had my scheduled appointment at Lola's to get my gelish nails done, and I wanted a bright summery look this time. So as soon as I was shown the array of colours, a beautiful highlighted coral immediately caught my eye! 

The colour I picked is called 'Put the Top Down' by the brand Thailion. I love how bright and summery it is, encapsulating the summer vibes even better; Thumbs up for that! 









 

Even though the colour is a bit limiting, having it last perfectly without chipping for a minimum of three weeks is a definite plus, not to mention that one can always put on a layer of topcoat and put on another nail polish if a very special occasion is coming up! 

It also looks great on, with a tan, next to the beach laying on a colourful towel and sipping on a slushie! What are your beach must-haves? x

:: Brand Focus - 3INA Store::

Hey girls! 

Last Saturday I got the opportunity to attend the luanch of the new make-up store 3INA which just opened in Qormi. Saying that I've been blown away is an understatement! I have a thing for organisation and colour-coded things and this was heaven! 

I decided to snap some pictures for you to show you around the gorgeous shop! Check out these amazing nail polishes! 

I also fell in love with their choice of lip colours! From lipsticks to lipglosses, lipliners and mattes! They're to die for! 

And check out their gorgeous eyes-shadows girls! A great choice of shades to choose from! 

Their facial products such as their cleansing milk and their toner! Definitely on my wishlist! xx

Their eyeliners, coloured mascaras, concealers, foundations... the shop is never-ending girls! 

I definitely recommend you to visit the store and treat yourself! Their prices are very affordable, and you're bound to fall in love with the brand! Let me know what you think!

:: Nude Love @ Lola's! ::

Hello there girls! 

So last week I got my nails done by the talented Michaela Lapira at my go-to nail salon Lola's in Msida. Unlike the past times I've been there, this time I went with an idea in mind - I wanted something neutral and matte (inspired by the beautiful Kelsey from rosiecheeksandfreckles!) And this is exactly what I got done!

Unfortunately I had to shorten my nails as two of them chipped a few days before my appointment! But I'm still happy with them, and since I've been trying to make them look healthier lately, a fresh start is always good, so I guess I have found the bright side of things! 

The thumb, pointing finger and pinky are in the colour 'Country Club Khaki' by the brand Orly, and the middle and ring fingers are in the colour 'What a Knight' by Gelish. In addition, I asked for a matte effect to be put on the thumb, pointer and pinky fingers for that little extra spice!

I prefer applying gelish because it lasts for a long time and helps me lengthen my nails without a problem! It also takes way (waaaay!) longer for the nails to break and the colours to chip! So I find it very beneficial, especially in summer since I spend a lot of my time at the beach! So get those sunglasses ready girls! 

I have been loving the feeling of having made-up nails lately, as its a very new thing for me! I was never into getting my nails done, or doing my nails in general for that matter! It was way too much hassle, applying it, just to have it chip hours later! But this lasts for approximately 3 weeks so I definitely recommend you looking into it!

:: Gelish Love @ Lola's ::

Hello girls!

I would like to start by excusing myself from being away for so long, but exams are getting closer and its getting crazier! About a week ago I had the opportunity to visit Lola's once again to get my nails done! Lara, the owner of the salon and her assistant did my nails as pretty as ever, and I wanted to share them with you! 

Prior to my visit, I had gelish (also made by her!), therefore it had to be removed before applying the new set. They used the foil method and I decided to snap a pic for you girls! It looks weird I know, but basically they put a product on the nails which breaks down the polish and therefore reduces damage to the natural nail! 

While this process was taking place, I got busy deciding which colours I was going to choose, and eventually went with the prettiest pastels; a baby blue and a baby pink which definitely scream spring to me! 

If anyone is interested in the exact names, here they are! So the pastel pink is called 'Pink Smoothie', the pastel blue is called 'My One Blue Love' and the Glitter Polish on my middle finger is called 'Escar, Go to France'. The names are adorable, I know! 

The reason I will keep getting gelish done over and over again is mainly because, it doesn't chip and lasts for up to three weeks if taken care of, sometimes even more! This is of paramount importance to me, especially in summer since I'm in the water all the time and everyone knows what happens to nail polish in the water! 

In addition, it helps a lot with elongating your nails! The nails become very strong and hard, and it is very difficult to bite them when gelish has been applied. I also feel that you are less likely to bite beautiful nails than chipped and weak nails!. 

For those worried that only one colour would bore them for three weeks, I can see where you're coming from! However, I've only recently learned that you can apply a layer of top coat on your nails to prevent them from getting stained, and apply another nail polish of your choice. This helps to match any of your outfits to your nails when going to important events and meetings!

:: Industry Spotlight - Lola's ::

Hello there girls!

I feel like I haven't posted for a while, but I'm back! This is an introductory post to a series which I've been planning for these last two weeks with the talented nail technician Lara Vella from Lola's! This series will include myself meeting numerous professionals in different sectors of the industry, such as hairdressers, make-up artists, nails technicians, beauticians, models, photographers etc...

I got the opportunity to visit her one morning, and get my nails done, and hence I decided to share my experience of getting them done with you! 

The polish used is Tan my Hide by Gelish Urban Cowgirl Collection, as well as Trendy by Orly FX Nailpolish on the ring finger. Since it was my first time getting gelish nails done, the idea was to keep the colours neutral during the transition from winter to spring, but also to add a pop of colour; in this case a bright coral! 

I also had the opportunity to ask Lara some questions, so I hope you enjoy them! 

1) Who are you exactly and what do you do? 

My name is Lara Vella and I have worked in the beauty industry for over nine years. Five years ago I fulfilled my dream of opening my own beauty salon, Lola's in Msida. At Lola's we offer our clients all sorts of beauty treatments from specialised facials to hot stone massage, waxing, make-up for all occasions, and finally all kinds of nail treatments, which is the treatment I specialise in. Our belief has always been that beauty comes from within, but there's nothing wrong with giving a little love on the outside too. Our aim is for clients to look and more importantly feel, radiant with every visit to Lola's. 

2) What made you choose this sector, and did you always find the industry intriguing? 

I have always been fascinated by the transformative power of make-up and I feel that its my way of expressing myself creatively. As a teen I would save all my pocket money, to then spend on stick on nails and nail polish. I would spend a whole Saturday painting and repainting my nails. I was always a girly girl, and in fact that is where my nickname Lola came from. It was never about work to me. Then my cousin Rebecca introduced me to the industry when I started training in her salon and for that I am forever grateful.

3) What is a positive aspect? 

I am so lucky to have found my passion in life. I absolutely love what I do! I've been in beauty for a while now and I'm confident in my work, which means when I'm with clients I can afford to focus not only on the job I;m doing but also on spending quality time with the person. Some people have been clients of mine for years, it's almost like having coffee with a friend! One of my favourite quotes is: ''Discover what you love to do, and you'll never work a day in your life.'' I feel this describes where I'm at perfectly. 

4) What is a negative aspect? 

I wouldn't exactly call it a negative aspect of the job, but it's definitely the area I find most challenging. Being your own boss you always tend to work more than the standard '40 hour week'. This is completely understandable and I believe that all the effort and energy you give out will come back to you tenfold. However, especially during the busy periods, I find it challenging to keep a balance between accommodating all my clients and not over booking my schedule. So I am learning to be stricter with taking breaks and not working more than a 60 hour week. 

5) What inspires you to keep working hard and reaching new goals?

I can't possible imagine myself doing anything else or not being my own boss anymore. I'm constantly inspired by new treatments especially those I discover while travelling. One of my main priorities in life is to travel as much as I possibly can, and this job allows me to do so as I regulate my own schedule. Flexibility in my job allows me to live a balanced life, which is of paramount importance to me!
